How many of you have Trans Temps Gauges & what temp do you see while wheeling..
I just installed my New Gauge in Blanco. :)
http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/437724/fullsize/img_8414.jpg
& while driving on flat fwys its stays around 160 degrees Climbing hills on the fwy about 190-95
But then cools down again after the hill..
But While Pre-Running through Lucerne Valleys MDR course on Friday.
it got as hot at 240! & that made me nervous...:o
So now I wanna figure out a way to Cool that Trans fluid down some...
I'm looking for your ideas of what you've done & Why this is happening..
I was considering something like this in addition to my current one..

Maybe this built on Fan can help?
& maybe I should Stack this one onto the other so the Fan blows both coolers?
Like I said I'm looking for ideas..

pack it in ice and it will cool down...
i dunno, would a different Tranny Oil be succficent.. and where is your current cooler mounted? inside the rad or outside (ive seen them on the inside)? ..if inside maybe re-routing to the out where more air would hit it along with an electric fan would help?

where is your current cooler mounted?
Its mounted in front of the Radiator so its get the incoming air 1st.

I rode in Carl Renezener's prerunner Ranger and it would get around 235-240 with a tranny cooler/fan combo. The engine was pumping out about 500 ponies and Josh B. was pretty hard on it.

So Nobodys got any other Ideas on how to cool it down during the Pre-Run :6:
We use two of the large coolers without fans in front of the radiator. We get worried when the temp gets to 200 because it always sits at 160 to 180 even in sand washes. I think if you want it to last more than 30 or 40,000 miles you need to keep it cooler than what you are seeing. Also how much are you shifting when prerunning? Make sure overdrive is off and shift it manually if you have to to keep it from hunting from one gear to another.
If another cooler doesnt do the trick there may be a problem in your trans. They will foam the fluid and get hotter if they are overfilled also. Drop your pan and look for debris and burnt fluid.

I take the overdrive off & dont shift it much unless it starts bogging down in the soft stuff or a on a steep hill.

The Trans temp gauge went in after Primm & I ran it harder & longer there, Then the pan came off & the fluid looked fine, a little bit of material & slightly darker oil when back flushing the in pan filter.
But nothing bad..
Sounds like maybe you just need another cooler in series. I dont remember what cooler you have now and am to lazy to look through your buildup thread.
Are you still running the stock cooler in series?

I have the factory in radiator one, Plus an after market. B&M I think, but I'd have to look I dont think I posted what trans cooler I'm running.. ( Well Maybe on TWW#1  )
& what do you mean exactly by in series? & Do you think if I stack the 2 coolers that the fan will help blowing through both?
Or will the two combined heat of both stacked end up making it worse? :6:
You may want to add a second cooler and not run your stock one. The reason is the stock one will try and heat the fluid to whatever your engine coolant is running. ( which is probably 195 to 210 offroad) You might try just bypassing the stock one first to see what effect it has on the temps.
In series means the outlet of the first cooler is plumbed to the inlet of the second cooler then back to the trans. It should run through the filter first before the coolers. (If you lunch your trans it wont fill your coolers up with metal. You can never get them completely cleaned out.)
Stacking the coolers is not ideal but is better than 1 cooler. If you have the space I would mount them side by side.
Run the stock engine clutch fan. Yes they suck some power when engaged but they do move a lot of air with the shroud in place. With the stock fan I wouldnt worry about having the electrics on the trans cooler. We run no electric fans on the race truck.
Dont use the little tie straps that run through your stock radiator to mount your coolers. make separate mounts. The ties will eventually wear through the core of the radiator with off road use.

Well I wanna run an eletric fan to help my A/C's output I need a BIG fan with alot of CFM to keep it blowing cold in slow Los Angeles traffic... ( I like my A/C COLD. http://bestsmileys.com/cold/9.gif )
I'll look into a 2nd aftermarket cooler then..
you recomend any brands or models?
I've been so busy lately with work , I hope to remember to look how my trans lines run to confirm where they're running...in the stock one or not etc etc...
Thanks for your input.

with temps like that I think you tranny has already had lunch. I would definately try to fit 2 coolers in series. Auto's are a pain in the ass. I sure wouldn't want my tranny fluid to hit 200. $$$$$$

Setrab is very nice, but I'm not sure where you will be able to mount that. How about "Enduro All-Season Trans Cooler (DB-30612)?
