Does anyone here have any experience with it?

I was thinking about customizing my Sammys tail lights by cutting & welding the plastic into the shape of my bumper opening.

Would plastic welding work like metal welding.
Or is it more like just for simple spot repairs?

have you searched it on the internet...actually the only problem i would see with it is that the angles on the turn signals. dont know how far you want to go into the bumper. you might be able to get some custom ones made?

i have done it before, but all i did was repair some plastic trash cans the got ran over by some kids. i had one of those harbor freight welders that you hook up to an air compressor and plug the heating element in. all it does is super heat the plastic to it's melting point. very similar to tig welding and oxy/acet. welding.
thats all ive got

Thanks XJDude, I now at least know how the Harbor frieght one works, Thats what I was looking at..

I just wonder if the welds would hold?

Maybe if I added superglue 1st then welded over that?

i'm sure they would hold if you get enough penetration

I think you need to try and find some black polyethylene. The same stuff they use for natural gas line. I've used the welder to put pieces together, I'm sure it would work for light housing, you'd just have to heat the whole piece up. I've only seen PE in round stock, not square or rectangular though.
