Selectable lockers are the best for on and offroad. A spool is a PITA in parking lots with small tires. Mechanical auto lockers can be a little different on hwy's. Like if your on the gas both wheels will lock but as soon as you let off it will on lock. Then when you get back on the gas they will relock and sometime will cause it to pull to one side. I would think the shorter the wheel base the worst it will be.
If money isn't an issue go with a air locker or a E locker. Hell even a cable locker like made by OX.

i'm happy with the lunchbox locker i have in the rear of mine... pretty quiet and works great on the trail... on the street under hard accelleration or quick breaking it will pull you one way or the other but you get used to it

I will pretty much agree with most of what dale said...... But,
Whats your wheel base & tire size?
While running my sammys 80 inch WB with the spool & 31 inch tires, It was a little noisey in parking lots & around town on 90 degree turns.
& then now that I've moved up to about an 83" wheel base with 33" tire's I will admit the tire noise has diminised.
But with my experience using a Detroit lock in the past I would say go with a spool!
& just learn to deal with some noise here & there & get use to learning how to minipulate, the noise of the spool..
Yet as Dale said , if you have the coin, Go seletable without a doubt!
You can even simply weld the spiders & make it a spool for free.
If you cant weld or dont have a freind that can help you, Spools are you cheapest option! :m2c:

i like my E-Locker :)
Also liked the spool I used to run. Either one would be a good choice, IMO.

i wouldn't weld up front... put in a spool and see if you like it fully locked up front... this way you can take it out and sell it for about what you pay for it when you see you don't like it... locked front like that just pushes the front end around... i've seen the red necks out here do it over and over again... and when they weld it they can't go back...
if $$ doesn't matter selectable is the only way to go
if it matters some then go lunch box locker rear and selectable up front
hell... not trying to knock you but are you sure you do hard enough wheeling to mess with the front axle now... you will be very suprised at how far you can go just throwing a lunchbox locker in the rear.... you'd prob want to upgrade to stronger axles before bothering with locking up the front in any sort of way
