Gang, I am building a bronco model (that I found in this thread (http://thewebwheeler.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25089&postcount=1)) and wanted to see if anyone recognizes it.
Sorry Cam, you can't play :innocent:

looks like a good model to build off of, but it lacks major detail, like wheres the vent window? but I like that it has the ford emblem on the grill.

The bronco I am building has no side windows...no glass at all (except the headlights and fog lights).
Hint, if you are a regular visitor to Class3Racing.com you will have a better chance of knowing.

Is that one of those resin kits?
coopdad
10-25-2007, 04:29 PM
No, regular old fashoned model (the same kind we did as kids.. at least when I was a kid). I think it is the lighting that makes it look resin-like.
I will try to post another "teaser photo" tonight... got a little more done.

I was regarding the vent window on the doors, this was All gens. of bronco. Hobby Exlcusive missed(i guess) , wether you were leave them out or had no glass, has nothin to do with H.E. leaving this Important(to me) detail out. EDIT: Highlighted below. ps nice half cab
coopdad

Yes, there is a lot that is not correct about the model. In addition to the vent window, the ones that caught my eye were: the steering wheel-a three spoke aftermarket wheel on a factory stock truck, the tcase is could use a little work to make it look correct and the floor is missing the tcase shifter altogether (when did they go to buttons? in the 90's?).
Yes, a little frustrating because I wanted to spend my time hand making King shocks and Mastercraft seats, not trying to figure out how to make the tcase look correct.

The Bronco is pretty prominent on TWW sister site: www.Class3Racing.com. It will have white paint if that helps any. The Moss racer is next after this one.
The cage was built using styrene sticks. Check out this tutorial. (http://www.briansmodelcars.com/tutorials/tutorial/13)
Not to hard to build a cage but very hard to make it look straight and symmetric. A lot of practice is needed.

Not much new due to all the travel visiting family. I will see what I can post later this week.
I will be starting on the suspension soon. Not really done too much research on it but I lucked out as the kit has a TTB like the real truck requiring only fabbing of the extended radius arms and coilovers. And I am good friends with the guy that runs BigJeepZZResin (http://www.freewebs.com/bigjeepzzresin/). He has a kit for King/Bilstein/Fox shocks... should make it much easier.
I will keep posting.

A little more done... the cage in the engine compartment is basically finished (excluding the mounting parts attaching shocks.) Next is finishing up the front bumper and then the fuel cell.
Many aspects of the build are on hold while I find tires/wheels. Nobody that I have know about (yet) makes BFGs so I am looking for other tires that are near the same size from other model kits. I need to get measurements of tires before building shocks as the shocks determine where the tires will sit in the wheel wells...a larger tire will need a longer shock and a smaller one, shorter (to make it look correct).

Another "WIP" (work in progress) photo...
New: correct steering wheel with hand made tach and column. Suspension has been the focus...TTB has gotten mods to make them more correct. Front coilovers and rear shocks have taken much time to build...not much else has gotten done. Front shocks to come next.
Thanks for watching the progress.

Oh, yea, I now have all the sponsor stickers done, ready to print out on decal paper. I included anything like gauges, GPS screen, CB front, battery tops, shift gate, pretty much anything with lettering... I figure it is easier to stick on stuff like the front Ford oval than to paint it.

Looks awesome! How exactly do you make your own steekers?
coopdad
02-01-2008, 09:30 PM
Steekers? funny! You have been to Baja too!
Pretty much the way you can make decals is to purchase special decal paper (basically, a full sheet of the same stuff used to make the decals that come in kits, only no artwork). They come in either clear or white and you add the art using either an inkjet or laser printer. Then you spray on a clear coat for protection, cut out and dip in water/slide onto model.
Still doing the research into the best brands but have heard good things from Bare Metal Foil's decal "film" (http://www.bare-metal.com/Experts-Choice-Decal-Film.html) and Krylon clear.
I will post more updates about this (and other) as I learn.

Much progress being made... I am getting my model making "chops" back after all that time. For instance I handmade a Art Carr shifter totally from scratch only took 2 hours that would have normally taken twice that long a few weeks ago.
Rather than post the pix here and burn up Cam's photo useage I will start posting the links to my photo site.

Jeryd was asking me offline about making headers...
The rosin core solder I used was roughtly 2mm in diameter (Google search lists a .062")... same stuff found a Radio Shack. I started by drilling solder-sized holes in the heads. I then cut four 1" strips of solder and hand bent them into header-shaped pipes. Then used super glue to stick them together in the proper location. After a few reglueings I cut all the pipes of to about 3/4 of an inch. I then used electrical heat shrink tubing to make the collector (I lucked out that the heat shrink tubing was just smaller than the diameter of the headers meaning I did not have to shrink it). I then just use styrene rod to make the remainder of the exhaust.
One word of caution... rosin core is acid and needs to be delt with before final assembly of the engine. You will need to seal off the pipes by squeezing them and/or superglueing the end so rosin does not leak out and attack your model.

I will probably weather it little but not much... probably just dirt thrown up by the wheels. Weathering is one of those things that if it is not done right, it just ruins the model... makes it look well, dirty (poor quality workmanship) rather than dirty (ran through dirt).
