MOSS BROTHERS HEED THE SIREN SONG

SACRAMENTO, CA - For 40 years the siren song has been heard by off road racers around the world. On November 13, they will gather in Ensenada, Mexico to heed the call and race the 1300 miles to Cabo San Lucas. This year’s event will be second only to the Baja 2000 race, the only other instance where the course finished in Cabo San Lucas. The Moss Brothers’ Class 3 champion Bronco will be joining a class record 9 entries and nearly 450 others looking to conquer in the legendary SCORE Baja 1000 race course.

“There are a couple of sections that have never been run before in the history of this great race and another section that was used only in 2000, so this will be a course for the ages,” said Sal Fish, SCORE CEO and President since soon after the Los Angeles-based SCORE International was founded in 1973. “Picture an artist’s canvas and imagine painting every type of terrain from petrified rocks to silty sand to high-speed trails to tight-twisty mountain passes and you’ll begin to capture the essence of what this incredible 40th anniversary race course will be like. Without a doubt, history will be made on a course that promises a thousand more SCORE Baja memories.”

Brothers, Don and Ken Moss, along with 12 faithful Black Bronco crew and co-drivers come to Baja Mexico with 24 Class wins and are undefeated since 2002. The Black 1979 Bronco is becoming quite an icon in the lore of desert racing. The Moss brothers sat out the first two races of the year and then rejoined the competition and assumed their title role in the class. They are in second place coming into this race, but are within reach of the championship. Over the last few weeks and months, the crew has communicated over great distances via hundreds of emails and phone calls to complete the prep and logistics necessary to field an entry, prep four chase trucks and organize all the support for this race. The Black Bronco crew will assemble in Ensenada on Sunday, November 11 from all across the Western US and some all the way from Canada (in their own vehicle no less) to contribute their own stories to the legend that is SCORE Baja.

Once again, the Black Bronco crew will utilize support from sponsor BFGoodrich Tires, whose commitment to the growth of SCORE International and desert racing is demonstrated in its support of numerous competitors in 18 classes and several volunteer-based pit areas located along the racecourse of the SCORE Baja 1000. BFGoodrich Tires dedicates 10 full service tractor-trailer pit vehicles and nearly 250 volunteer and active personnel to support more than 73 percent of the field at the SCORE Baja 1000 who will be competing on BFGoodrich Tires, a tradition that started in 1981. For a team such as the Moss Brothers, this support is invaluable.

For the first time, the Moss Brothers’ Black Bronco and support crew will also be running with a full set of KC HID Racer Unit lights and Halogen lights as part of the new sponsorship with off road giant, KC HiLiTES. “We have raced so many years and so many miles with hand-me-downs that we have borrowed or scrounged, it will be an honor to test KC HiLiTES latest products on the Bronco,” exclaimed owner, Don Moss.

Pre-race festivities begin on Monday, Nov. 12, for the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (PST) adjacent to Nico Saad’s San Nicolas Hotel, the official SCORE race headquarters in Ensenada. The Moss Brothers Bronco is estimated to start the race at approximately 1 pm on Tuesday, November 13. The post-race Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 Award’s Celebration will be held during the SCORE Fiesta at the Playa Cascadas (adjacent to the Villa del Palmar) at noon on Friday, Nov. 16.

This year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 desert race will be televised on a delayed basis as a one-hour NBC Sports special for the fourth consecutive year, airing on Dec. 30 on the NBC Television Network. It will also air on a delayed basis outside of the U.S. on ESPN International.

“SCORE is on the brink of another historic desert racing milestone and we are awed and humbled by the unbelievable field for this year’s 40th anniversary of the legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000,” said Sal Fish. “The stage has clearly been set for another star-studded, record-breaking memorable event in the storied history of this magnificent motorsports spectacle. We can’t wait for the green flag to drop. It will be like watching 40 Super Bowls all at once.” Neither can we Sal, see you in Baja !
