I suspect the wider housing might be out of a Van.
I'm running a 35 Spline....
But mines a Currie rear end.

I dont remember hearing the 33 spline max for stock housing before?
is that due to the bearings available or? :6:

I'd suspect a van housing is the wider one also.
33 spline? I think possibly you are refering to inches in tire size? which would be rediculous anyway.

have fun building a 9"..they are fun.

28, 31, 35, 40 spline counts are the ones I know of in 9" rears.
35 and 40 require a different 3rd IIRC...but I'm not 'totally' sure

31 spline comes stock in van rears. you would need a nodular case for 35 spline axles. they came in a few ford cars stock but good luck ever finding one at a junkyard.

The 31's also come stock in Broncos & pick up trucks.

& yes I recall hearing that you need a Nod. 3rd for the 35+ spline.
Even my Strange Nodular 3rd had to be clearenced before it could all be assembled.

& as Gury says, chances are slim the you'd find one in a junk yard.

& for what they would charge you, you might as well buy after market. :m2c:

33 maximum for the stock third member not housing sorry. The wide one is 28 spline and had leaf spring perches on it i put that in after i twisted the housing on the 8.8 then i bent an axle on the wide rear end so i picked up a set of axles out of the bronco and have been running that rear fine but i am trying to avoided one tons.

Yeah I am really happy with it. I have a stock 31 spline 9" from a 78 Bronco to go in to it. I plan to keep this truck nice and beat on my 79.
