Don Moss sent me this..( I Through in that KING thing,, Those Two Bros are VERY low key....)

The official results from SCORE are below, but the
Moss Brothers Racing Bronco puts another one in the
win column! It was a rough and slow course, and we
got hung up in two major traffic jams, but we lost
only about 10 or 20 minutes in each, instead of hours
like last year. With only 18 hours to finish, you can
see we did not have lot of time to spare even though
we didn't have any problems. We got out a grand total
of one screwdriver and tightened one screw on one of
the voltage regulators the entire race. Also note
that we finished ahead of a bunch of other classes,
including Class 9 and the Stock Full Size trucks. In
fact our time would have been good enough for 3rd in
Class 8!

I started the race with Chris Reilly and we took the
Bronco to BFG Pit 1 at race mile (RM) 99. This
section included the "Pine Forest", which was tight,
rough and dusty. We came across one traffic jam at
about RM 60 on a steep uphill switchback section. Ken
and Gary Dunn went to BFG Pit 2 at RM 173, and they
had a traffic jam shortly after the pit where two
other racers got hung up in a creek crossing. Ken and
Dan Thunborg went to RM 248 through the Mike's Sky
Ranch and Simpson Ranch area. Ken usually runs this
section in the dark, so he was glad to see it during
the day for a change. I got back in at RM 248 just as
it was getting dark, and Dan and I took it to BFG Pit
3. Dave Grundman got in, and he and I went up the
Pacific beach to Santo Tomas. The fog was horrible
through here, and we could not see a thing without
leaving our helmet visors open. We had hoped to make
up some time and bring up our average speed in this
section, but instead we had creep through here because
it was dark and foggy. From Santo Tomas we headed
back inland to Ojos Negros. In the canyon we came
across the Camburg trophy truck parked in front of a
1600 class racer laying on its side in the middle of
the trail. Dave jumped out and helped flip the car
back over. It turns out the 1600 team was connected
to the group of locals that got us running and then
pulled us out in the 2002 Baja 500. The Camburg truck
promptly got hung up trying to get around the 1600
car. We pulled and pushed until we both finally got
through the section. Before we got out of the canyon,
we pulled another mini truck out of a rut. These guys
had their tow strap all ready to go. It is suprising
how many stuck vehicles you see that don't have a tow
strap out, maybe they don't have one? We put some gas
in when we stopped in Ojos, and Ken got in with Dave
to finish the race. They were able to navigate the
last section coming into Ensenada, even though the
supplied GPS track was wrong. The physical course
markings disappear in this section even before we get
there during the start, either knocked down, covered
with dust, or collected as a souvenir by the
spectators. There is so much construction going on in
this area that the route changes almost daily. We had
planned to save the route as we came through during
the start, but the GPS memory ran out and overwrote
the data. Ken said there were suprisingly quite a few
spectators in this section, even though it was 2 in
the morning!

The house we had for this race was different than past
races, but in the same area on the beach. This one
worked well, because it had a large area of concrete
that we were able park and work on. We had to install
new front and rear springs on the Bronco that we
picked up on the way down.

We were all back across the border by about 3 pm
Sunday, after about a 3 or 4 hour ordeal getting
through TJ and the border. I have never seen it so
bad, just bad timing I guess.

A big thanks to Robert, Cam, and Pete for helping out
with the chase truck duty and all the other 5,000
details that it takes to make one of these races
successful. Pete drove all the way out from Iowa
towing his motorcycle. He and Chris pre-ran the first
100 miles on Wednesday, since we hadn't really covered
that section in previous years.

Check the thewebwheeler.com for more stories and
pictures, thanks to Cam and his website.

And finally, a thanks to the following for parts and
support:

River City Differentials
BFG
Deaver Suspension
King Shocks
Sunoco fuel
Baja Bros Flame Lab shirts
American Racing Wheels
Delta Rubber

Next race is in September, the Primm 300.

> Dale Ebberts/Ernie Castro Jr. [104] were second in

> “It was good,” Ebberts stated. “We did have

>
> CLASS 1/2-1600
> Gerardo Iribe [1645] chalked up his first SCORE win

> “My drive today was dusty and long,” Gaddis

> Dan Chamlee/Tom Chamlee [701] tallied a

> 250.
> “It was a great race,” the elder Chamlee, Dan

> I drove the whole thing. It was fun. It was so

>
> CLASS 10
> Darren Hardesty/Mark Randazzo [1008] were the 11th
> and final four-wheeled
> vehicle to average at least 40 mph (40.12), which
> was good enough to earn them a
> Class 10 championship. Hardesty also won the SCORE

> “It was a fantastic race, we didn’t have any

> We had a spark plug that came out right at the start

>
> Will Higman [1007] placed third in Class 10.
> “It was a really challenging race,” Higman
> stated. “We only averaged about
> 37 miles per hour so it was really slow. My arms
> are a little tired. It was
> a very challenging course, very slow, a lot of
> turns, a lot of breaking,
> rocks, water, there was everything. I saw more

> saw a car with it’s

>
> PROTRUCK
> Rob Reinertson/Rick D. Johnson [234] won the class

> Johnson his second SCORE Baja 500 Protruck win in
> three years. On top of that,
> Johnson also won the 1995 Class 7s title prior to
> winning consecutive Protruck
> titles in the 1998 and 1999 SCORE Baja 500s.
> “The course was very tough, very challenging,”
> Reinertson recalled. “We
> had a lot of dust, running behind some of the other
> classes. We had one flat
> tire. Got off the course once and got stuck, but
> some of the locals pulled us
> out right away. It was a good run. I drove the

> “I don’t even know where to start, it’s just
> Baja,” Johnson said. “
> Especially the 500 the last couple years has been
> brutal, absolutely brutal. We had
> to deal with fog out on the beach. It was just
> unbelievable. You just can’t

> it takes. No flats. No
> problems with our vehicle.”
>
> SCORE LITE
> Tim Noe/Tom Watson/Travis Clark [1200] won after
> beginning the year with a
> pair of thirds.
> “It was wild,” Watson commented. “It was a
> tough, tough race. Toughest
> Baja I’ve ever done. We had the fog, the dust
> coming back in. Everything about
> it was tough. The car ran great. No problems.
> Once it got good and dark we
> did good. We had a good trail. My co-pilot was

> NOTES
> • The 438 starters marks an all-time record for
> SCORE races in Mexico,
> eclipsing the previous standard of 384, set in the
> 1976 SCORE Baja 500 and tied in
> the 1977 SCORE Baja 500. There were 464 total
> entries this year, marking what
> was most likely the second most in SCORE history,
> behind the 1988 SCORE Parker
> 400 total.
>
> • This marked the fifth time in SCORE history that
> at least 400 starters have
> left the line. The other six times all occurred in
> the SCORE Parker 400
> races in the 1980’s. Here is a look at all the
> SCORE races which have had at

> o 452 starters in 1988 (249 finishers)
> o 438 starters in 2006 (222 finishers)
> o 421 starters in 1980 (225 finishers)
> o 419 starters in 1987 (199 finishers)
> o 415 starters in 1986 (207 finishers)
> o 403 starters in 1989 (221 finishers)
> o 400 starters in 1981 (197 finishers)
>
> • Just over half of the starters completed the
> race, as 222 of the 438 who
> left the line managed to finish the race within the
> 18-hour time limit. The 222
> finishers not only set a record for the most
> finishers in any SCORE race in
> Mexico, it also was more than the number of starters
> in 14 SCORE Baja 500s over
> the 38-year span this race has been held.
>
> • Of the first nine four-wheeled vehicles to
> finish, eight were SCORE
> Trophy-Trucks, while a Class 1 vehicle occupied the

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/476183/fullsize/img_5785.jpg

This was another possible threat Considering that they were running jeep speed as Class 3 Modified.

& hearing the 2X team constantly Calling for Status on their Rider..
They would ask like every minute over & over again...
It got real old real fast.

So after lunch we head down to Where Dave would Be getting into the Bronco & finishing out the race.
BFG Pit #3 Llano Colorado.

http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/477489/fullsize/img_6262.jpg
This is one of those same guys I met out in the desert during the 1000

Theres a funny story going on here between these guys & the Moss bro's
It seems a few years back The moss bros got stuck at the base of a hill & this guys along with his Buddy came along & helped out the Moss bros get up & over a hill.

& in this race I'm told this guy "Mr Ganso" was racing in a 1600 Buggy & got stuck on its side when the Moss bros came up & helped them get back onto their tires..
Ken Or Dave can give us more details about this..

But heres the Buggy Our freinds were Racing.

& it still held air! :)

We'll you do have a point..
But during the 1000 they had to replace coils spring twice but that was on the far side from us .....

But Yes they do know how to drive & keep it together to finish the race.
Proper planning & knowing when they Can & cant stomp on the skinny pedal gets them through . :3gears:

Funny thing happen after getting back into the USA tho....
I had PM'ed Crawler about calling me because I thought I was near his place..
He calls like a minute & a half after I turned on my phone once we were back in the USA.

It turns out I was like 5 minutes away from his house..
& I went over to Visit & it turns out he happen to have a 35" tire that would work as a spare For my drive home!
Thanks Crawler! I was a bit nervous driving with no spare, with my Crappy Tires..:paperbag:

MOSS BROTHERS SCORE 20TH CLASS WIN AT BAJA 500

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO, CA – The 38th annual SCORE Baja 500 is over and the record books will reflect that the 4 time SCORE Class 3 champions Don and Ken Moss captured their 20th Class 3 win at this 2006 event. The race featured 464 entries from 28 U.S. States, Mexico, Canada, Colombia, France, New Zealand and Japan, the largest race field ever.

The brothers and their Black Bronco Crew finished the 424 mile course in just over 14 hours, finishing at 2 am on Sunday, June 4. That finish time included helping to right a 1600 class racer on the course and pull out another mini truck that was stuck, but had their tow strap out looking for some horsepower. The crew planned on arriving a little early to Ensenada so as to allow time to install the new rear springs supplied by Deaver Suspension and front springs supplied by King Shocks, which they picked up on their way south for the race. That was the only heavy work done in Mexico on the Bronco. “We got out a grand total of one screwdriver and tightened one screw on one of the voltage regulators the entire race,’” quipped Don Moss. The team once again completed the race on BF Goodrich rubber with no flats.

This Baja 500 race was filmed for television by Auro360 to be aired in December as a one hour special on NBC in the United States and also on ESPN International worldwide, reaching 22 million households.

The next race in the SCORE Off Road racing series will be the SCORE Las Vegas / Primm 300 in September in Primm, NV and the Moss Brothers will be there in their intimidating Black Bronco to continue their chase for a fifth Class 3 Championship.

Hey Here are some pics from the 500 when we were waiting for our Class 8 to get through Tech. I met Ken and Don Moss. I am the one in the F350 Waiting. That is what we do when we are not drivers. I am so glad fireworks are legal or we would get into so real trouble. It is still fun, but I like to drive.
