Last Sunday, John and I took his boat out for a couple hours to relax and do some fishing. We try to get out every Sunday evening for a couple hours and fish.
Usually I just feed the fish...but that's another story, lol.
In the 2 months or so since fishing season has been in swing, John has caught a LOT of Northern Pike, about 22" ones, legal limit is 24", so we were unable to keep them. Until last sunday I had caught 0 fish, had a few bites, but my hooking techniuqe kinda sucked...until Sunday night. At this time we had one nice Bass that John caught, I had NO bites at all. After an hour of sitting there, I mentioned mine hadn't moved at all, John told me to give it a few more minutes and we'd bring it in and replace the minnow.
Not even 3 minutes later, my bobber moved, than went under the water quick. So I reeled in my slack and waited to set the hook. It went under once again, and I jerked back, like I had been shown so many times as I sucked at this, and started reeling in. After about 15 feet or so, I felt a jerk and than slack, I said damn, it's gone. So I started reeling in what I thought remained of my bait, NOTHING. About 2 or 3 feet went by, and my bobber took a nose dive to the bottom, I still had him! :D
John got the net out, said it was probably a 30 incher. All I remember seeing was a big mouth wide open and lots of little teeth coming toward me! lol.
We got it on the boat, measured it, and it came out at 29 1/2" I was so happy! I've never caught anything this big before.
Another fisherman trolling just to the North of us, came past and asked what we caught, John showed him, and the guy said all her heard was a scream and than the net coming out. I was like, I screamed? John said like a little girl. lol
I didn't care, I caught me my first big fish. lol. He wouldn't let me get it mounted though :( He told me nothing under 40" lol
Man I can't wait to eat my catch! Here are a couple of pics, after we got home. You can see the bass that was also cuahgt behind the pike.

those are some nice looking pike. I use to love fishing those until I got into trout fishing with my grandpa.
