:awesome_dude: I've got get over there to see that thing! :cheers:
what size tires are those again?
look like 37's on that little thing..
I wonder if you realized the green on those bead locks look just like the green on Mike's Jeep? :6:
Looking great tho..
That Cage is so :cooool:
Only thing I wonder is about that full size spare?
its hard to tell in the pics but how that effecting your departure angle?
It looks like it might get hung up on stuff? :humm_smilie:
But like I said its hard to tell from these pics...

Thanks, The tires are only 35x12.5's; I think i'll stick to 35's right now. They tuck nice. I twisted it up and got the rear tire off the ground 38.5" and the front tire hadn't lifted off the ground yet. I was hitting the body on the wall. The spare is a full size spare but is just hanging by a rope and is about 8" lower than it'll be when I build my spare tire carrier.
I still have to shim the front to get the castor corrected but it's going to be sweet.
Once I get the articulated pics uploaded from my friends phone i'll post them.

I did the passenger side shock on Sat. I now know I need a shock that has 14-16" of shaft. My 10" King 2.5's aren't working out. It will have to be strapped and bump and I'll lose alot of it until I link front and rear. oh well; i'm happy that it flex's better than before.

The further Ranger in the garage belongs to "Pat" a 95 Green one with 6.5" Camburg extended beams and heimed radius arms extended to tranny crossmember on 14" 2.5 racerunners w/ engine Camburb engine cage. Deaver long travel pack with 16" racerunners in the back. front is Strapped and bumped at 18.5" travel.
The closer one to the right belongs to "Gury" a 97 Gun Metal Grey one with a recently done Blitzkreig Motor Sports Long travel A-Arm kit. 6.5" extended front wheelbase custom lower arms, 12" king coilovers. Custom Billet Upper arm with room for a triple bypass. front is strapped and bumped at 17.5" travel. Stock is 9-9.5" travel.

Today he got the Power steering working..

& I'm jealous!
He's got 35's & can turn the wheels lock to lock with one hand! :awesome_dude:
Funny thing is after hooking up the power steering lines he was basically out of fluid for it.:eusa_doh: DOH!
But then he found this old can in the Shead.

Now did I mention it was old?

Whats the best way to keep the axle housing from warping when you truss it?(like youre front axle)Ive got a bare housing i want to truss...I was thinking about making a adjustable jig for different width housings...Just not sure about how to go about it.

Lets not HI-Jake this thread with truss talk..
But I will say that you have to do it slowly over a day or so to prevent warpage..
its the heat that warps it & if you do long welds it gets mighty hot..
But even if you take 3 days just welding a few inches at a time you'd still be best off sending it off to get it straightened..
I looked into this alot before getting mine for Blanco..
RDC & DesertRangers are pretty good sources for this sort of stuff.
Feel free to start a new thead on this else where. :)

09-06-2006, 07:51 AM
well I didn't do the front axle truss on mine but the way mine was trussed was the plate, etc was welded on all at once, then sent to be straightened with a narly 100 ton press and then verified it was straight.

I will be trussing the rear to match the front though. I'll probably just weld everything up and send it to get straightened though. When it comes to offroading I don't want to be stranded.

thanks, steering is scary due to caster issue so time to order parts and park it once again. although this time i'm not parking it anywhere near I had it. it was parked in the back of my driveway for almost a year and it's finally out so i'm parking it in front of my house. it's a never ending project just like any one of our offroad vehicles. I'm going to tie up alot of loose ends before it gets back on the road but now that I drove it even if the steering was scary at least when I add more parts like traction bars, steering caster correction, bump the PS pumps flow up, rear shocks i'll have an idea of how much better it will be. yeah it's on all 4 wheels. :pianodance:

it's coming together. I'm getting antsy though to go out in it. there still needs to be alot of going through but for now it'll be OK for a test run.
I have way too much travel for my driveshaft can handle. I need to get an extreme splined shaft that has maybe 10" of spline and need to really clearence the driveshaft joints; thats my major problem.

well if I get some expected money in before I get hooked up with bigger tires; i'll buy Howards Toyo's (35's). I would like to go bigger but my rig would them have to get cut up alittle bit more to fit the bigger tires (37's-38's) and i'd have to get front Bobby Longs so I wont brake the front axles. The rear axles won't break and will probably withstand 40's but the front axles are stock. If I stick with 35's i'll be able to pund the **** out of Roczuk and not worry about breaking. It's a tough desicion.
here are the 35's I might get though:

well it's time that I deal with my motor issues...
my big problem is not lack of power (stock 1.3 around 40-55hp dyno'd)as this is a crawler primarily and it's got sufficient power once I drop it in 4lo. My concern is the carbuerator; when I travel to the trail in the high altitude it drops the power in half (it feels like a go kart trying to push 35's) and when i'm in the high altitude the oxygen is less and seems to want to stall easier; mostly because of the rock hills and flooding the carb, etc.
I originally wanted to switch to a 1.6 16V Sidekick motor which is the norm for a samurai motor swap but don't want to spend those funds right now as to do it right with alow mileage motor even with junkyard hookups, conversion kit, etc i'll be spending up to $2000.00 or more.
my motor is fine other than the troublesome carb. NOTE: I had it rebuilt about 1 year ago and the guy knew his **** and was awesome for along time but after swishing that fuel around offroading and having it sit for long periods of time it's time to rebuild it again and I don't want to throw my money away.
I"M GOING PROPANE!:pianodance:
http://www.gotpropane.com/p4.html#Suzuki
It'll be published as well in my favorite mag.
i'll give a full writeup as I go. many sammy owners have done this and swear by it. many moderate mechanics on a sammy says it takes no more than 2 hours install. (all electrical is 1 12V hookup for the shut off)
Benefits:
* Will not go bad
* Burns clean
* Requires no maintenance
* Is easy to install
* Is very safe
* Rates at 100-110 octane
* Automatically compensates for altitude
* Prolongs engine life
* Is affordable
* You can run motor upside down
* No wiring except the on/off solenoid.
* No gasoline leaking when you roll
* Propane is not harmful to soil or water
* Safe

thanks for the help Cam. It was fun; I don't think it would have been as much fun alone. it's already starting to look like a decent trailer.
just so everyone knows I got this trailer for a good price; I'm sure some of you rednecks out in the boonies could have bought one like it for $100.00 or so but here in LA they aren't cheap, even older ones. anyways this is perfect for me as my sammy weighs maybe half of the weight of your average jeep or bronco so I'm happy!:pianodance: :cheers:

RocZuk

yeah I agree with you. yeah i'm going to throw about 5 steel channel pieces parralell to the wood underneath and finish the rear supports that I cut out to fit a long travel ranger in as well, it'll be strong once I'm done.
thanks though; you wheel much? you coming to TDS?

just a suggestion...
maybe add a length of steel from the top of the rail to near where the ramp mounts...added strength there may help keep the frame from bending again....its that whole triangulation thing.
my trailer has supports every 2' I think and they are perpendicular to the direction of travel.
see if I can locate a photo...cant see one tonight..get one on Tuesday.
didn't see it having axle brakes...plan on using any?

I'll post more pics later but I have say this; Propane Conversion is by far the easiest and @ $1000.00 for everything I justified this by hoping I won't need to swap the motor, but if I do then this will work on the 16v 1.6 tracker motor, anyways I'm really happy with it. it is sooooo smooth even from start up. I took Cam around the block last night and without advancing the timing yet (Propane is 110 octane) It was very peppy. Once I get the timing where needed and make more adjustments I think I will "sell" everyone on this.
I still have all my old fuel lines and old gas tank that will need to be removed. I thought though, maybe i'll keep my stock gas tank like a cushion coming down on rocks, etc.
convert your old gas tank into an on board air tank!

convert your old gas tank into an on board air tank!
I dont think it would hold up to Pressue very well. :shrug:
But he could use that space for proper air Tanks & such ..

Your tracker looks cool. You should come out to Azusa with Cam and I some time; you don't even have to wheel it and you can still have fun. Chula Vista is close right?
where exactly is Azusa?

$695.00 for the Samurai kit, $160.00 for the bling bottle and $160.00 for the large steel bottle, you fill the propane bottle like your average BBQ bottle, most people say it's the same usage in fuel.
here are the rest of the install pics:

Bottles; one is the "just released" fiberglass see thru bottle (they only have that one in the smaller 8 gallon size) and the other one is the larger 10 gallon steel one.

right now CA isn't allowing these conversions unless it comes from the factory, that is the most recent data I have. I have another stock samurai so I just use that :rofl:
Gas mileage is the same or better; power is amazingly crisper and very responsive.

Tristan,
Question for you, I'm in the middle of doing my YJ lift on my Sami and I'm thinking of stretching 6 inches in the front. What shackles did you on your front leafs and where did you get them?
Thanks,
Joe

awsome!
well I extended my frame 6" and then did the shackle reversal using Trail-Gears (trail-gear.com) mounts.
go into alittle more detail though as to what you want to achieve so I can better direct you.

I'm also doing a shackle reversal, I want to move the the front spring mount forward and use the stock rear mount. Also, how long of a front drive shaft did you have to use?
Thanks,
Joe

It was enough just getting mine to all work right moving my front axle only 2 inches forward.. :shrug:

Yes it's a lot of work but I want to stretch it a bit and I really liked how Tristan's is setup. I'll be cuttin the hell out of the fenders but oh well who needs fenders?

I'm right there with ya, I don't think it's being cheep. Why pay for something when you do it or build it yourself. I've got the time, space and equipment to do the work and this way if something goes wrong there's no one to blame but myself.
