little update to this project.
Fit hit the Shan....Looks like I have a blown head gasket....at the same time as the shift forks broke in the transmission.

Ok...I was headed to Utah so the truck was shoved into the garage for when I got back.
While there I picked up a recently rebuilt trans for a mere $137.50 at a wrecking yard. sweet. also got a tach equipt instrument panel and some other parts while there. I will go back!
I have all I need for some work to get done on the little truck. Head gasket kit, a Saginaw pump bracket for the steering, and a LSD rebuild kit for the rear...in addition to the trans. Just need to get a new clutch and throwout internal slave and do the swap.

Only problem for me is that I have a pinched nerve and can barely lift a coffee cup empty. But I'm still excited that it should only take a week or so to get it all back together. Yes I will take the head to a machine shop to inspect and do a quick valve lap/grind before I reinstall for piece of mind. Should also take in flywheel for same reason....

2 chiropractic adjustments later.....I'm starting to feel better. As in I don't have tingling in my arm anymore. I can lift my coffee cup with coffee in it. So the day is coming when I will feel like getting out and working on this.

Pain.
SUCKS!

I'm looking at TreadWrights for this rigs next set of shoes.

The tires on it now are fine for off highway but are not as cool for highway anymore. Local to farm and back ok. But with a spare set of wheels....I think some new inexpensive tires are in order. Priced Shipped....better than local, AND AMERICAN MADE. That is what the new President wants from us...buy American.

Watched this video below.....

Leave it to you to find a cheap source for tires, thanks for the link.

3 things come to mind?

One, how much are they compared to knew & what about warranty?

And realistically a tires performance is more that just its tread, so what if you buy a set and one core was a Big O tire & another a BF Goodrich & still another a Firestone?

did you watch the video yet? think your questions answered there.
I went to website and pleased with price compared to virgin tires. Everything I get here is shipped. unless I get wally world tires, but that doesn't mean cheaper.

If the carcass passed inspection...I don't care what name it had before. I think there are only so many manufacturers of tires anyway. I think I have read that Maker X produces Brand A, B and D tires (for concept as I don't recall the specific names) --if everything we read on the 'net' is true......

another update to the rebuild saga.

Head was warped, valves were good....but still got a full head rebuild. its back on waiting for me to get stuff cleaned up and reinstalled. While I'm in there, I'm doing a Saginaw pump swap since the pump was on its way out anyway and this has bigger tires that will go a little bigger. Replaced both motor mounts as they were trashed. metal on metal trashed. Had to get my lower intake welded as the tabs for cly.6 were broken. Aluminum welding $50.
Its slow going but I put in as much time as I can when I can. Dad stayed until around 10 last night....I went to around 1 I think.

cleaning tonight and might paint block on passenger side? and clean the upper intake to paint that so the throttle body can bolt back up with the new gasket.

Not a show clean paint job under the hood, but unexpected nice under there is my goal...and to have it clean to diagnose any further issues easier.

another update as I pulled an all nighter on the truck last night before crashing around 7AM.
Photos to come as the battery was dead.

Got a major part done....M5OD fixed. Discovered failure point of shift forks....missing shift rail cap at the front of trans. might explain why it was so oily. So both forks were shot. Got them replaced with help on the phone from a buddy of mine who had done it before. Not sure why the procedure isn't included in my repair manual. If I had some ATF I'd have it all together but nothing open on Sunday to get it here.
Got some parts clean and painted, cleaned the injectors before reinstalling them. Found my block plugs I misplaced.

Tough days that start at 6AM that end at 7AM the next day. I can't blame the lack of a clock in the garage on this one. I can blame not looking at it as the reason for the all nighter. really got addicting and seeing that I'm sooooo close to the finish drove me forward....until I needed to clean my hands to put the injectors back together.

another late night but man this is getting close. Passenger side of motor is back together. Just have a few small things on the driver side and go get my Saginaw pump off the Bronco to swap on here. Need a lower radiator hose as I discovered it almost worn through.
I can see getting this done by the weekend so I can leave it outside and finally get at painting the tin for the Ford 2N tractor then get the motorcycle finished up to bring in the vw.

The attached photos are my thoughts for painting this truck. I'm leaning toward the one with the small silver stripe on the bottom. Although the all red is rather eye catching. I just don't know.
