Carb soaking in cleaner tonight. Kit on bench awaiting clean carb. new points installed. bought wrong condenser...dang it. Tried to finalize the remaining parts list for ordering.

And What did I find tonight? The motorcycle I'd like this car to purchase for me.
and even better is that it is within about 3 hours of home instead of CA, TX, or GA.

Time to keep cracking away on this to replace the funds I deeply desire to deplete to get that bike.

just placed a HUGE order of parts to bring this thing up to par and make it ready for a car show. Lots of bang for the buck I think. Complete new interior, some rebuild kits for hard parts.
So far it was painless except to the plastic card and the balance in paypal. Now I only have to finish reassembling the carb, soak the fuel pump. yada yada yada...
lots of little stuff I can do until the parts arrive.

1 of : BOS-03010 - GENUINE BOSCH - DISTRIBUTOR CAP - BEETLE 69-79 / GHIA 69-79 / BUS 69-79 / VAN. 80-(EARLY)84 & BOSCH 009 DIS. - SOLD EACH

1 of : BOS-09001 - BOSCH (NEW DESIGN WITH CARBON CORE) IGNITION WIRE SET 12-1600CC (SEE SPECIAL NOTE) - BEETLE 46-79 / GHIA 56-74 / BUS 50-71 - SOLD SET

1 of : T10-1511-11 - 56-74 GHIA SEDAN REAR QUARTER PANELS - BLACK

1 of : T20-1510-44 - 56-74 GHIA SEDAN HEADLINER - OFF-WHITE PERORATED VINYL

1 of : T43-1526-01 - 69-71 GHIA SEDAN SEAT COVER SET -BLACK BASKET WEAVE

1 of : VHD-N14-3893-100 - DOOR PANEL CLIPS - 100 PIECE BAG - BEETLE 46-79 - GHIA 56-74 - TYPE 3 62-74 - SOLD BAG OF 100

1 of : VWC-111-198-555 - FUEL PUMP REBUILD KIT 13-1600CC - FOR ORIGINAL PUMP WITH SLIP-ON FITTING & SCREW TOGETHER TOP

1 of : VWC-113-127-521 - STEEL FUEL LINE TO FUEL PUMP - 13-1600CC BEETLE STYLE ENGINES 66-74

Missed out on my motorcycle by mere hours. By the time I gathered up the funding and tried to set up a time to meet...it was sold. All this in under 24 hours...me finding listing to having it sold. Atleast Im ready now for the next one comes up.
So if I look at it one way....I saved over $10,000 today.

sizing up for the 2nd order of parts to bring it closer to the finish line.
Got to love a sale...with no sales tax....and FREE shipping over $99.

Living in the furthest place that supplies anything remotely correct for this car...its great to have the 'net' for shopping and have places that can and are willing to provide us 'geographically challenged' customers an extremely competitive deal.

Tires are the next to last 'major' purchase. Thought I could use some tires I had but they really are a tad too large. I'm not cutting fenders to make them fit.

carb rebuilt.
fuel pump rebuilt.
distributor rebuilt.
plugs wires and cap being installed.

Complete interior being replaced. Starting by removing old interior. Giving it a real good deep cleaning.

Brake system parts still in transit. So I have time to make it run, and clean up the fuel tank.

finding out this Ghia is somewhat of a unicorn. If it can turn its farts into power to propel it down the road then I will believe it is a unicorn and paint it rainbow colors...hahaha

ok not really on the rainbow deal...

think I just put my final order in for VW parts.

glad I held off on tires...but those are still coming.

What I thought might be part of an AC system is actually a gas powered heater for the really cold climates. The car did have AC but the only parts left are the bracket, pulley and the hoses. I dont' know if I will find the parts to reinstall that system.

progress on this has been suspended due to taking on a repair to a 4.0L Ford Ranger

200 miles in just part runs in 2 evenings. Living in the sticks isn't always great.
Hopefully I get it back to running in the morning....and not leaking.

Pulled door cards out and most of carpet now. Need to clean up door card trim and install on new door cards.
I have also pulled the covers off the rear seat and one front seat. I will be freshening the paint that shows on the seats and giving the seat base some odor control attention prior to reinstalling the new covers.

Gave the interior a good looking over for speaker placement for stereo. Not going to do a DIN mount and destroy the original part of the dash. I may more than likely do a radio in the glove box leaving the original in the dash for looks. I did the dash hack in previous VWs and having returned to original on an Early Bronco, that dash radio repair sucks. Will not do it again. Especially since I'm not convinced I will fall madly in love with this car.

I am uploading photos it SM at the moment and will return to post progress. I was beat getting that Ranger back on the road yesterday. Seemingly so simple a fix, yet it took forever--but still faster than waiting for parts. Owner was so so so happy to get back into his truck...running better and with available heat to cook him out of the cab.
