Idle control valve?

Ok so my Bronco surges up & down when I start it unless I punch the throttle & then the last time I took it out it ran great, but when I got home I could barely get it parked!
Makes me wonder if it being warm vs cold makes a difference?

Every time I put it in gear it pretty much stalled as I was backing the boat into place.

I'm thinking Idle Control valve?

I've sprayed it before years ago & IIRC it helped but not I wonder if I should just replace it or might it be something else? ( Of course this rig is rarely driven & so years ago means maybe 1000 miles ago? if that? )

& I'll be wasting time & money?

Id remove it with the two 8mm bolts and unplug the one plug. Check out how dirty it is in there. It should move reasonably easy as I remember. if not, get some sensor safe throttle body cleaner and let'r rip tator chip.... reinstall and test. don't forget the gasket before installing. if you lose it, rip it or misplace it...make one from a cereal box.
IIRC those IAC are in the $35 range...unless its for a 6cly...and it jumps to around $100. So that's why I would try cleaning it first as that is the symptom of a sticking IAC. There may be other things that could cause it, but this is the easy check and its cheap to try.
You have any CEL? or cracked vacuum lines?

Thanks Tom!
I knew I could count on you!

I never actually removed it last time I sprayed it.
& love the cereal box gasket tip!

I'll have to try that, I'm starting to wanna get back into giving Blanco Love.

I've called some paint shops & the Prices are nuts!

So I'm thinking of doing it with spray cans & colors sanding it.
I listed the Ranchero last night & with in minutes got 2 hits.

One guy might come see it tonight.

I plan to put some of the money into the Bronco.

yeah, its not a tough thing to do...and its great when it fixes it. I think when they sit awhile the excess fuel crud gets gummed up and can cause fluxuation at idle. I hate to say get a new one and try it because in case its not the root cause of the issue.

nothing wrong with the rattle can paint method. Some really nice looking finishes have been produced with a rattle can. Not really cheaper, but being able to do the job in stages is worth something. I have thought about that type of job for my F150....mostly because I drive it almost every day. But anytime I can I purchase body panels that are the right color. If I can find a passenger door, and both fenders I will do it that way.

Edit...if you try to call me if you have issues while doing this...leave a message so my phone might notify me. the service here lately has totally sucked. I often don't get missed call notifications...but messages will come through within 2 hours with no missed calls showing. fun huh?

Well the phone quotes I got must be more expensive than a rattle can?
I think the cheapest was around $1,000.00

& touch up when it gets scratched would be much easier this way.

Ok I tried being lazy with just using SeaFoam & that seemed to do nothing so I took it apart & lucky me saved the gasket & sprayed & scrubbed it well & at first it seemed not much better but once warmed up it sounded like a sexy purr.

I cant wait to take it out tomorrow morning fishing & then just keep driving it for the fun of it to get it all warmed up like what happened before?

Wish me luck!

that is good to hear. Hope it went well.

I found out I'm more allergic to bee stings than I previously believed. Pretty potent for such a little critter.

Anyways.... Yes its been running better yet today when I got back from fishing at the lake & stopped at the stop sign at the end of the fwy off ramp it stalled?

But then I drove it the 1/2 mile home from there in low to keep it reving higher & it never stalled again, even while backing my boat into its spot?

Oh & for the bee's it seems I also as I've aged become more allergic to bees.

I carry an Bee Pen in my work bag & Camper & etc just to be safe.

are you certain that you don't have a vacuum leak somewhere? hoses are at the age where you can look at them cross eyed and have them break. Just another thought.

I will need to look into a bee pen. Sure would have sucked to be on the bike somewhere when it happened.

Your probably right, thanks for the tip, I'll make sure not to cross my eyes while looking at them.

OK so after having the same issue after cleaning it I went & got a new one today & replaced it being I'm likely to sell the Bronco I don't want it acting up during the test drive.

Not to mention if I keep it, I need it reliable.

Well while moving my trailer around this morning, the Bronco started stalling again.
So I guess its not the valve.

I'll take the boat to the lake in a few days to see if its exactly the same.

Is your truck displaying any CELs? Maybe something in stored memory?
I think autozone will pull codes free for you? if you are lazy or don't have a scanner this is an acceptable option to get more info for fixing the issue.

I'd like to help ya out buddy....Need a bit more info on what is going on when this happens.

Taking a boat out here this week would be like putting a boat out on the paved street....only colder. All the water is frozen. -10* will do that to water.

Well assuming this guy is serious, It dont really matter, he says he plans to buy it & it only has to run to get on the trailer.

Yet I planned to go fishing as much as I could before its gone & planned to do so & then today I see my Boats registration has expired & now I cant get on the water even once I get it there!!!!

Might have to keep the Ranchero so I have a truck that will tow my boat?

didn't realize you had an interested buyer.

you still have a big Dodge that should handle that little boat right? wouldn't the sami haul that thing? might not do it quick but would do it.

Well the guy lives in Phoenix Arizona & said he would probably come get it on Feb 3rd or something like that he is part of a Trophy Truck race team & he want mellower street able toy & that I told him I have an Idle issue & think I'll get it fixed & so I tried & he said he don't care about that as long as it will drive onto the trailer being he plans to do a lot of changes to it anyways.

He says he has seen the build thread on it here & would send me money to hold it & I said we'll If I feel your serious, I won't re-list it & he said he would send me a few hundred to keep it for him & so I told him we will talk as we get closer to that date & yes I'll want to cash up front if he expects me to take a day off work for a guy that might be a flake.

So I figure as this day gets closer , I'll ask what a single days pay rate ( Non refundable ) is for me & then take that day off for him.

I hate to see it go but this will help me get my new trailer & the boats carpet all redone.

I already re-listed the Sammy & yes the Dodge will have no issues towing the boat once I take the camper off its back.
& the camper will be going by by as well once we get closer to bringing home the trailer oh & the trailer will likely go By by as well.....

At the moment I'm considering it for towing the boat for now?

Ok..got ya.

AZ has a bit more leniency on vehicles...except for Maricopa County I thought (Phoenix). That sounds like a perfect use for the Blanco...So I wouldn't be too sad to see it go knowing it will be used. I understand the sentimental part though.....really do.

I am slowing down getting more toys until I thin the herd. If I do move again, I can't take it all with me....can I? Not unless I get something in the .75<acre size.

If I didn't Keep The Ranchero, I might still want the Ghia?

Yet the chero is more practical, Yet it will probably go bye bye as well in time?

Depending on what part of Az you still need to do Smog.

In Pima County & thats the main center of Tucson & I've heard in Phoenix is the same?

Yet my Az residence is in Pinal County.
